TestimonialsHello Richard,
James and I would like to thank you for a really good Yawl training weekend. We enjoyed our time and the personal input which you gave us. No need to tell you how tricky sailing in Salcombe Estuary is. We look forward to seeing you with us again in the future. Best regards, Barney and James Y 138 Black Betty Dear Richard.
What a truly amazing weekend I had Racing in the September Salcombe Yawl Open meeting with you, It has been said before “there is nothing wrong with my boat”, With your rig tuning and coaching throughout we won the Open with two firsts and a fifth one race cancelled. It was for me very special, and I just hope I remember at least half of the knowledge you offered over the weekend. I look forward to the Yawl training session next year at Salcombe Yacht Club. A big thank you from a very happy Yawl owner. Andrew Stirling Salcombe Yawl 74 We just wanted to say a huge thank you for Friday as we all got a lot out of it which we are certain will transform our sailing! The set-up and format for the day is truly excellent and your teaching style is spot-on - not giving us too much to work on but giving us enough to focus our attention and keep us learning and developing through the session and into the future. Sail coaching with Richard is akin to sailing with a mate who you have known all your life. His friendly and approachable style enables you to feel comfortable in asking what you believe could be the most stupid of questions. Richard is a sail by feel sailor, that feel is obviously grounded with a superb technical knowledge but what make Richard unique is that he is able to impart some of this feel – by explaining what he is looking for, what he (and we) can feel in the boat and translating back the boat’s and rig’s own “chat”. I firmly believe that after just 2 sessions with Richard my skills in rig tuning, especially in light to medium weather when gear changing is important, were significantly improved. Richard sailed with me through a race and this is where his tactical and strategic ability also gets shared – we all hear get your head out of the boat but Richard shares what he is looking at and how we should position ourselves accordingly – the other key learning point was how Richard prevents getting emotionally involved – ego kept out out of the boat – keep cool, keep thinking, don’t get angry/disappointed/dream up excuses for the bar, you never know you may even get all those places back. So in summary, if you want to improve your sailing get Rich on board – he is a first class act across the full spectrum of skills we need in this challenging and absorbing sport. |
